They’re the worst.

Fifty years and I still can’t use them.

Maybe it’s heredetary?

What am I talking about?

The two most evil, jinxed concoctions ever built by man – and one was invented my Leonardo da Vinci!

Yeah, I’m talking about scissors and photocopiers.

What’s with these things?

Every time I pick up a pair of scissors it seems like the universe bends and contorts itself into this curvy, unruly mess. And photocopiers? They break down before I even touch them!

As an indifferent agnostic, these are the little things that make me wonder if there really is a higher power out there.

But if he’s real, god must be a twisted, devious prankster!

After all, look who we’ve got for president…

But anyway, the reason I’m writing today is because I wanted to make it clear that in order to succeed you have to know and understand your own limitations.

Nobody is awesome at everything.

So quit trying to be the “do all, be all” wonderkid of your market and learn to play to your strengths while avoiding your weak spots.

Are you an awesome fashion designer? Then design.
Are you an amazing analyst? Then crunch them numbers.
Are you an astounding salesman? Then sell, sell and sell some more.

Learn to invest your most valuable resource (your time) where it makes the biggest contribution towards reaching your goals.

And if your not an incredible marketer, click here and let’s work together.

In 1598 Queen Elizabeth held a banquet. And on this auspicious occasion it was declared that guests would enjoy the pleasure of a new food source, recently discovered in the New World – potatoes! Unfortunately… There was a problem. None of the royal chefs had any idea on how to cook a potato! So, by […]

Tanks. Bombs dropping. Nazi concentration camps. The atom bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Even though over 70 years have gone by, the imagery of World War II is still vibrant to most of us. Eisenhower, Churchill and Stalin are still well known figures far from forgotten. However, many facts about World War II are practically […]

Apple pie?
“Baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet…” According to the song, nothing is more American, right? Except that baseball was invented in Britain! In fact, the first recorded game of baseball was in 1749 in Surrey, England. The prince was one of the players! The first known reference to baseball in America was in 1791, forty-two years […]

That’s the first reply I got to yesterday’s email. Are you really suggesting people mail there lists every day? You must be crazy! Could be, but I’m not wearing a straight jacket yet. Here’s probably what you’re thinking… You’ll burn your list out! Everyone will unsubscribe! People hate spammers! And guess what? That’s a bunch […]

Five Essential Tasks
Last week I answered two questions: What marketing should I do if I’m totally broke? What marketing should I do if I’m rolling in dough? But today I don’t want to focus on the extremes. Instead I’d like to share with you the five essential marketing tasks that every business should be taking care of […]

Grandpa said…
When I was a senior in high school my grandpa gave me some advice. I was sitting in the cab of his pickup – don’t remember where we were going – when he said, “Dennis, whatever you do be the best at it. Even if it’s kissing ass!” That one phrase, along with a lifetime […]

“Teach don’t sell.” This is one of the most abused catch phrases of the day. While there is some truth to it, often it can become a mortal trap for lots of professionals. Let me explain. A couple of days ago I was talking with a friend of mine. He’s a smart, experienced guy with […]

The Spanish Christmas Lottery
Hola, ¿qué tal? Living in Spain for so many years taught me so many things. I’ve learned to speak Spanish, eat properly, dress elegantly and even how to dance Sevillanas! However, being married to a Spaniard has taught me something far more important. Over the years I’ve learned what multi-cultural really means. Until you’ve laughed […]

He missed the train
It really happened. I know because I saw the tear in his eye. Quite a few years ago (and no, I’m not saying how many 🙂 my best friend Larry and I went to Spain to “learn Spanish” and “see the world”. I ended up meeting my wife and soulmate and staying there for over […]

What’s around the corner?
I get asked this quite a bit… What are the next big things in online marketing that business owners should be aware of? With so much changing, it often seems like an impossible task to come up with a good answer. However, for the moment I DO have something in mind that I’d like to […]

The Round Man
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my grandpa. James Franklin Dew, Jr. was the son of a Souther Baptist revival preacher. He was a poet, an avid reader of cowboy novels and sharp bridge player. He was affectionately known by all as “The Round Man”. I remember how he told me stories about growing […]

Bagels for breakfast?
Here’s an interesting tidbit for you… Did you know that Ben & Jerry’s original plan was to go into the bagel business? Yep, ice cream wasn’t their first choice. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) the equipment necessary for making bagels was just too expensive. They realized their limitations, changed course and […]

Coffee is brewing, the sun is shining, and it’s time for something totally weird. In fact, today I’m going to begin sharing with you perhaps the strangest, most impossible project you’ve ever heard of. To be honest, it may not work. To be sincere, it may fizzle out and disappear forever. But it might just […]

Things that go boom!
Here we go again… Since pretty much everything he’s touched since becoming president has gone fizzle, spurt, clunk, Mr. Trump decided to go boom. I guess it was inevitable. But why do we Americans love blowing things up so much? Kinda seems like they never let us play with the chemistry set as kids, and […]

Over the years I’ve learned the power of being consistent. Religiously I send you an email every morning – come rain or shine. At the very least this silently communicates to you two important qualities. First, that I care enough about you to keep up with it. And second, that I’m consistent about the work […]

Numbers Marketing
Yesterday we talked about pulling down your drawers and letting it all hang out. But today is a new day. Today, with my sensible, professional advisor hat firmly in place, I want to talk about another critical aspect of any successful campaign: the numbers. While it’s true that creating a stir and driving a ton […]

Flash News: Talented Marketer Almost Devoured by Hungry Alligators
It all started with a duck. A duck who had no intention of being an afternoon snack. For Skyh. Yes, the same happy pit bull puppy that dislocated my elbow a couple of months ago. But back to the story. We were enjoying our everyday walk in the park. The dogs were playing with their […]

Hey, I bet you didn’t know this… During the second world war, metal was so scarce the winners of the Oscars were given plaster statuettes instead!
